About DogYearsToHuman.com
I’ve lived with dogs for most of my adult life. Different breeds, different sizes, different temperaments. Some arrived as puppies, some came to me later in life, and a few spent their final years with me. Over time you pick things up. You notice what changes, what to watch for, what helps and what doesn’t.
DogYearsToHuman.com started with a simple question I kept coming back to: what does my dog’s age actually mean? Not the number on paper, but what that number represents in terms of where they are in their life, what their body is doing, and what they might need next.
The seven-year rule that most people know is a rough average that doesn’t hold up particularly well once you look at it closely. A two-year-old Great Dane and a two-year-old Chihuahua are in completely different stages of their development. The calculator at the centre of this site uses a more realistic approach that accounts for size and life stage, giving a clearer picture of where your dog actually is.
About Leo Finch

I’m Leo. I’ve lived with dogs for over a decade, including several older dogs, which is where a lot of what I write about comes from.
I’m not a vet or a trainer. What I know comes from paying close attention over a long time. Noticing what helps and what doesn’t. Working out what the dog is actually telling you rather than what you assume they’re telling you. Getting things wrong occasionally and adjusting.
Most of the content on this site lies between general advice and lived experience. The kind of thing that’s useful when you’re trying to work out whether your dog’s slowing down is just age or something worth looking at, or when you’re standing in a pet shop wondering which bed is actually going to help an arthritic dog rather than just look comfortable.
I write about dogs at every life stage but have a particular interest in the senior years, partly because that’s where owners tend to feel least prepared, and partly because older dogs are consistently underestimated.
What You’ll Find Here
The dog years to human years calculator is the starting point. It gives you a more realistic sense of your dog’s age in human terms based on their size, which changes what the number actually means.
Alongside the calculator there’s a growing library of articles covering dog health, nutrition, behaviour, enrichment, and the practicalities of living with dogs at every stage. There’s also a dog age chart you can refer to quickly, and a free dog age and health guide you can download and keep.
The site is supported through advertising and affiliate links. These help keep the calculator and content freely available. We may also offer an optional newsletter soon with helpful tips, fun facts, and updates for dog lovers.
A Note On The Content
Everything on this site is written from personal experience and general research. It’s intended to be useful and honest, not to replace veterinary advice. For anything specific to your dog’s health, a vet is always the right starting point.
The site is supported through display advertising and affiliate links. Where a product is recommended and linked, it’s because it’s well reviewed and genuinely worth considering, not because of the link. The affiliate commission comes at no extra cost to you.
